About Our Church

Our Savior

Our Savior is not just our Savior, he's your Savior! He's the only Savior! The Bible teaches that JESUS CHRIST is the Savior of the world.

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are SAVED, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”
-1 Cor. 15:1-4

According to the Bible every person who has ever been born is in trouble and needs to be saved. This trouble all stems from the fact that every one of us is a sinner. The gospel or “good news” is that Jesus died for our sins!

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
- John 3:16-18

Have you believed on Jesus Christ to save you from your sins? Christ didn’t come to condemn us but to save us from the condemnation we were already under. JESUS loves you! JESUS died for you! JESUS invites you to look to him today and be saved!

Our Church Family

A church family is supposed to be just that, a family. At Central we are working to develop our relationship with God and each other at the same time. We laugh together, cry together, worship together and serve together. We are everyday individuals and families striving together to make a difference in our community and our world for the glory of God. As our name indicates Central Baptist is all about keeping Christ at the “Center” of everything we do. He is the one who rescued us from sin, motivates us for service, and he is the one we strive to live like. We invite you to come visit the CBC family for yourself.

Our Pastor

In June 2016 Central Baptist Church welcomed their new pastor Tim Hall. Pastor Tim is originally from the Shenandoah Valley. When God directed him to return to Virginia and pastor, he was humbled and excited to have the chance to impact his hometown community with the Gospel. He is married to his wonderful wife and best friend Anna. Together they have been blessed with 4 beautiful daughters.

Our Purpose

The purpose of Central Baptist Church is to glorify our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. We believe the Bible tells us to accomplish this through four foundational biblical actions:

Loving

We believe the greatest command ever given to the church and Christian individuals is to, “love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength:” (Mar. 12:30). The highest priority of our lives should be to love God and to live a life that is pleasing to him. We believe the second greatest command is also rooted in love; our love for our fellowman. Christ said the second command after loving God is, “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” We believe our ability to bring glory to God is rooted in these biblical teachings on love.

Growing

We believe it is impossible for a Christian to know God, love God, or live for him without knowing his letter of instruction to man, the Bible. Everything we do at central Baptist is motivated by love but it is directed by the Word of God. We strive to grow together in our understanding and application of God’s truth. This is accomplished through both personal Bible study as well as public Bible preaching. As a result of Growing in God’s word we believe we will be able to grow in our ability to do God’s will.

Serving

We believe as Christians our desire should be to live on this earth the way Christ lived when he was here. In Philippians we are told, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:” (Phil 2:5-7) Loving is our motivation, the word of God is our direction, but serving is our mindset. We believe scripture teaches us to glorify God by serving Him, serving other believers, and serving the lost in accordance with scripture. Jesus said in Matt. 20:26-27 that the greatest among men (In God’s eyes) will be those who are servants.

Going

We believe that Christ last command should be one of our first priorities. Mar. 16:15, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature”. Love is our motivation, the Word of God is our direction, serving is our mindset, but going is our application of all of these. We believe one of the greatest ways God is glorified is when a lost sinner is rescued by the amazing grace of God. Scripture teaches us that it is our privilege and responsibility to “Go” with the Gospel into all the world.

Our Beliefs

The Bible
We believe the Bible to be the revealed Word of God, fully and verbally inspired of God. We believe the Scriptures to be the inerrant, infallible Word of God, as found within the 66 books from Genesis to Revelation. We believe that God not only inspired every word, but that He has preserved them through the ages. (Psalm 12:6–7; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; 1 Peter 1:23-25; 2 Peter 1:19-21)

We believe that God created the universe in six literal, 24-hour periods. We view evolution, the gap theory, the day-age theory, theistic evolution, and intelligent design not attributed to God as unscriptural theories of origin. (Genesis 1-2; Exodus 20:11)

Our History

Central Baptist Church was started in 1960 under the leadership of  Rev. Vernon Berry. He and his wife Betty moved to Waynesboro with their 4 small children believing God had led them to start a new church. Rev. Berry faithfully pastored the church for more than 55 years until his retirement in the fall of 2015. During his time as Pastor the church saw many come to know Christ and the church went through three different building projects to meet the growing needs of the ministry. His faithfulness to God and dedication to the Word of God both laid the foundation and began the work God desires to do through this church. Through the years Central Baptist has been blessed with many faithful , loving, and dedicated servants.
